Dad Changes the Diapers Too
KENTUCKY, USA - APRIL 24, 2020: This male robin has removed a fecal sac excreted from one of the babies. Fecal sacs are nature's way of keeping the nest clean as the sac contains the poo from one bird. Early in the life cycle, when the fecal material is not heavily contaminated with bacteria, the bird parents often consume the sac themselves for nutrition. As the nestlings become larger, their excrement has more organisms, so the fecal sac is carried away from the nest and deposited elsewhere.

Looks Like a Piece of Cotton
KENTUCKY, USA - APRIL 24, 2020: The fecal sac is pure white, almost like cotton. The mother will either consume it if she doesn't sense contamination, or she will take it out of the nest, and deliver it somewhere else.

Mountain Blue Bird in Flight
AGATA, COLORADO, USA - JUNE 13, 2020: While camping on a ranch in the plains of Colorado, I was able to capture this mountain blue bird in flight. Mountain blue birds are almost solid blue and are found in open areas without many trees, unlike the Western blue bird which is found in forested areas and has an orangy brown breast with some of the same color on the back.

Mr. & Mrs. Finch
Franktown, Colorado - June 30, 2020: A mating pair of House Finches sit close together on a branch. I've noticed that the mating pairs stay very close to one another, the female rarely letting the male out of her sight. Often times when I see pairs fly in to the water bowl, the male will land first, and the female lands right behind him, fussing at him the whole time like she has caught him at the local bar.
Pygmy Nuthatch finds treasure
Franktown, Colorado - June 30, 2020: This Pygmy Nuthatch found a seed in this branch. My question is this: was this a seed he placed there before? Or was this a seed from the tree itself?. These little birds are known for their ability to hide, store and retrieve seeds they have cached in prior times. Talk about a bird brain...these guys are pretty clever!
Front View of the Spotted Towhee
Franktown, Colorado - June 30, 2020: Here you can see the white breast of the Spotted Towhee. The Spotted Towhee differs from the Blackheaded Grosbeak in that his entire head and neck is black with a white chest, whereas the Blackheaded Grosbeak has an orange neck and chest. The Spotted Towhee also has a reddish/orange eye as compared to the darker eye of the Black-headed Grosbeak.
