Dad Changes the Diapers Too
KENTUCKY, USA - APRIL 24, 2020: This male robin has removed a fecal sac excreted from one of the babies. Fecal sacs are nature's way of keeping the nest clean as the sac contains the poo from one bird. Early in the life cycle, when the fecal material is not heavily contaminated with bacteria, the bird parents often consume the sac themselves for nutrition. As the nestlings become larger, their excrement has more organisms, so the fecal sac is carried away from the nest and deposited elsewhere.
