Scattered Bones

Shifting Sands
TANZANIA, AFRICA-AUGUST 16, 2019: This an area where strong winds blow causing this dune of sand to migrate. Over the course of decades, this dune has been blown several miles, remaining in its same shape and form. The local people believe it is a spiritual place and come here to pray. The women who cannot conceive, often come here to pray for fertility. It is out in the middle of nowhere -not an easy place to travel to or to find. Many lives have been lost here due to the elements and to preying lions. The guides tell us that it isn't uncommon for young boys to go missing while out shepherding their goats or cattle for long stretches of time. All that is found is their clothing and prodding stick.
