A two-horse open sleigh.
Pulled by teams of horses, the tours last about an hour. The driver offers interesting information about the elk herds which migrate to the refuge.

Making the best of a sunny day.
Superior to the others, this big bull rests by himself in peace. These elk photos were taken in Grand Teton National Park which we visited before moving on to Yellowstone.

Migration is the name of the game.
The refuge is vast with thousands of acres. Because the animals are not constrained by any boundaries, the elk continue to play follow the leader and migrate frequently.

Chilly but not freezing.
All the sleighs have warm woolen blankets to wrap up in. Coat, gloves and hat are all you need. If you are ever in Teton in the winter, don't miss this attraction. It's not expensive and quite enjoyable.

The guide is giving us information about how the elk reduction, a euphemism for open season on elk within national park boundaries which keeps the hunters happy. The elk reduction is held every November and is warranted to be beneficial to the herd and to the elk refuge land. Jim and I watched the "elk reduction" this past fall and it's more like target practice and less like hunting.
